Back pain is the leading cause of disability in the world. Most people will experience lower back pain at one time in their life, whether acute or chronic. If lower back pain persists for more than a few weeks, you should seek medical attention at your reliable health facility, Florida Pain Management Institute. The common symptoms are shooting pain and aching sensation in the lower back. There are many causes of back pain, and here are some.

    Osteoarthritis

It is a condition resulting from wear and tear of disc and facet joints. It is related to aging. The space around the spinal cord narrows, causing spinal stenosis. Osteoarthritis causes pain, inflammation, instability, and stenosis in the lower back.

    Degenerative disc disease

The vertebral discs are healthy and full of water when you are born. As you age, the discs become dehydrated and wear out. Dehydration of discs leads to resistance of forces leading to their tear, causing pain and weakness. If the disc collapses, stenosis arises, leading to lower back pain.

    Lumbar herniated disc

A lumbar herniated disc occurs when the outer layer breaks and the nearby nerve root is irritated. When the proteins in the herniated portion reach the nerve root, it causes inflammation and nerve root pain. You will experience severe pain if the disc wall tears through the nerve fibers.

    Strain

You will have back pain if you strain your muscles. Strain will result from the improper lifting of heavy objects, sudden complex movements, and overworking. After doing an activity, you might have stiffness and sore feelings around the involved body parts.

    Osteoporosis

Osteoporosis is loss of bone density and thinning of the bone. Minor fractures called compression fractures will occur in your vertebrae leading to severe pain. The bone caves in on itself, leading to sudden pain. It is common in older people.

    Diseases

Spine tumors and infections can cause lower back pain. Tumor results when cells divide and multiply unrestricted. Tumors can be benign or malignant and can cause lower back pain. They spread from other body parts or originate from the spine. Other conditions like kidney stones can also cause back pain.

    Sciatica

Sciatica occurs when a herniated disc presses on the sciatic nerve. The nerve runs to your legs through your lower back, hips, and buttocks. You will have pain in your legs and feet since the sciatic nerve connects to the legs. Your feet feel like burning or needles.

    Deformity

Abnormal curvature of the spine causes a deformity, which results from pressure on muscles, tendons, ligaments, and vertebrae. Abnormal curvature causes conditions like scoliosis, kyphosis, and lordosis. These conditions lead to lower back pain and poor posture.

    Trauma

Trauma can result from a motor vehicle accident or playing sports, leading to acute or chronic fractures and spine dislocations. It causes lower back pain, and it is advisable to visit your doctor for evaluation.

You will need to visit your doctor to evaluate and treat low back pain. If you suffer from low back pain, schedule an appointment with Florida Pain Management Institute to get the care you need.
