Preparing for exams can often be stressful for students, especially in higher classes. Scoring well is an important determinant of a student’s academic intelligence and holds great significance in the student’s educational future.

Every grade in school is a significant part of our education system. Class 11 brings a lot of new concepts and topics taught in different streams and subjects. This is the part of the school where students are gearing up for their career choices. Hence, scoring good marks in their chosen subjects has more importance in classes 11 and 12 than in any other class. Marks from class 11 decide if the students get to study their chosen streams.

Scoring good marks in mathematics seems difficult to a big number of students due to various complex methods and techniques. As a part of the PCM stream, maths can often be the weak part for students.

Some important tips can help students study maths effectively while finishing the syllabus in time and getting a good grip of the subject. These include:

    • Check your syllabus
The very first step before you start preparing for any exam is to check the updated syllabus. Since there are changes made almost every year, noting the removed/added topics from class 11 maths will help you devote your time only to topics that may come in the exam. It also helps you cover all of it in time and be able to save time for more practice in case you need it.
    • Check the exam pattern & marks distribution
Knowing the marks distribution can help you practice more the chapters that have higher weightage than others. The exam pattern has questions of different weightage and solving ones with higher marks can consume more time than questions with lower weightage. Hence, knowing the exam pattern can help you plan a proper distribution of time out of the 3 hours of the exam. Take help of CBSE class 11 maths solutions to identify your weak and strong areas.
    • Find a peaceful atmosphere
It is very important to find a place in your house where you are away from all distractions that can obstruct your time for studying. Your study room should be one with a silent and comfortable environment so you can concentrate better.
    • Practice well
Practicing is the only way of achieving proficiency in mathematics. A lot of methods and procedures are involved in the subject and rote learning can only help remember formulas. Students can understand the applications of different techniques through repeated practice.
    • Prepare a list of formulas
Making a chapter-wise list of all the formulas in the syllabus can help you learn them better and not miss practicing any of them. This list can include various important theorems as well. Students can keep this list handy and revise it regularly without wasting time going through the entire book to find any formulae.
    • Prepare a timetable
Following a timetable can help study well for each subject. It is an efficient way of time management as well as covering the syllabus while leaving enough time to practice the difficult or important topics from other resources like previous year’s question papers and sample papers. Spending at least 2 hours on mathematics can be sufficient for getting a grip of the subject.
    • Cover the NCERT properly
Question papers are prepared while keeping the NCERT book as the basis. Many questions are framed directly from it and hence, it is the best resource for preparing and scoring well in the internals as well as the board exam. Practicing NCERT solutions and examples given in the book will make your preparation for the exam more efficient and foolproof.
    • Do not leave out topics
Often students do not prepare or practice well on the topics with less weightage. Every topic in your syllabus is equally important and can come up in the exam. Hence, to avoid losing any marks in the exam, do not ignore any concepts or topics
    • Clear your queries and doubts
You may come up with many queries and doubts while practicing for the exam. Not getting the solutions for such doubts can cause stress and hinder your studies. Hence, clear your doubts by asking your teachers, family members, or friends who can help you with it, and your performance in the exam is not affected.
    • Practice sample papers
After you are done with the entire syllabus, sample question papers and question papers from previous years can help you know where you stand. Students can identify the topics or concepts that require more practice as well as know the time required to solve the entire paper or any specific questions. Previous year’s question papers can also help understand the format of question papers or recurring questions which students can practice more.
    • Do not wait until the last moment
Scoring well in mathematics or any other subject cannot be achieved if you wait until a month or week before your exam to start preparing. Studying regularly and being attentive throughout classes will help you know the topics and only require you to properly revise them later.
    • Do not study for consecutive long hours
Studying for more than 2 to 3 hours consecutively can exhaust you. Exhaustion will lead to an incomplete understanding of whatever concepts you study next. Taking regular breaks will help refresh your mind and body and you will be able to focus better.
    • Do not compromise your health
Often students continue to study for long hours and do not keep a check on their mental as well as physical health. Eating proper meals regularly, getting an adequate amount of sleep, and enough physical activity can help reduce stress as well as keep you healthy.

    Conclusion

It is important that all students recognize the value of practice and proper time management to be able to achieve both proficiency and good test results. Following these basic tips can help students prepare and score well on the exam without stressing or affecting their health. It is strongly advised to all students to take regular breaks between study hours.
